As a reminder, Monday, June 20, 2022, is Juneteenth, so there will be no in-home mail delivery.
This year is the first year that there will be no mail delivery for this holiday. Traditionally held on June 19 each year, this year falling on a Sunday, the holiday will be officially recognized on June 20.
Juneteenth (short for "June Nineteenth") marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops' arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.
On June 17th, 2021, President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law, establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday.
