Further Price Increases Announced

North America’s four largest uncoated freesheet (UFS) paper producers by capacity – Domtar, Sylvamo, Pixelle, and Boise Paper/ Packaging Corp of America (PCA) – announced new price increases for September of about 4-7% or $60/ton. The four companies combined manage about 73% of the North American UFS market capacity, according to RISI Fastmarkets. Other UFS manufacturers are also implementing September price increases, including Phoenix Paper, Finch Paper, Rolland, American Eagle, French Paper, Norpac, ND Paper, and The Navigator Company. Coated paper producers Billerud, ND Paper, UPM, and Kruger also announced September price increases ranging from 6-12%. Additionally, Sappi Europe will increase prices to its European customers by 8-10% on its range of Woodfree Coated and Uncoated papers and Paperboard as of September 12th. All mills cite the continued increasing cost of raw materials, energy, and logistics as driving the price increases.
